COD members understand the challenges involved in preparing for the ABE exams. Through their own experiences, COD mentors are able to offer the right direction and support to current Candidates. One of the major changes to the Track for Board Certification is the ability of Candidates to select the order in which they wish to complete the Board Certification Process. This option played a positive impact on the Candidates challenging board, marking the beginning of a much-awaited change for our specialty.
One of the most common and important questions a Candidate asks before challenging the boards:

Answer: Proper guidance and advice to help you succeed!
What exactly does a Mentor do?
Answer:
- Orientation to the various parts of the Board Certification Process
- Proper management of information and material to cover
- Assistance in developing a support study group
- Give Mock Orals in preparation for the Oral Exam
- Provide valuable feedback on your Case History Portfolio
- Emotional support
- Tips on time management
Mentorship Program Guidelines
To ensure a meaningful and structured mentorship experience for all participants, please review the following guidelines:
- Mentors are assigned only to candidates who are officially registered for either the Case Portfolio or the Oral Examination.
- If you are not yet registered, we are unable to assign a mentor at this time.
- Once your registration is complete, you are welcome to contact us to inquire about mentor availability.
Timing Requirements
To protect the integrity of the program and respect our mentors’ time commitments:
- Oral Examination mentors will not be assigned within three (3) weeks of the scheduled examination date.
- Case Portfolio mentors will not be assigned within six (6) weeks of the May submission deadline.
We appreciate your understanding and your commitment to the mentorship process. Our goal is to provide thoughtful, effective guidance within these parameters.
