Summer Conference 2004

Presents its
4th Annual Summer Conference

August 4-8, 2004

The Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch
Avon, Colorado

Pack up your fishing equipment, your SUV, your hiking stuff, golf clubs and your laptop and join fellow compatriots at the Ritz Carlton at Bachelor Gulch on Beaver Creek in the beautiful Colorado Rockies. As in the past, each morning will be filled with invaluable information and interaction about dental trauma presented by Leif Bakland and Jens Andreasen. The afternoon and evening will be filled with just about anything else you can imagine at this mountain retreat.

The three morning sessions will look at evidence-based dental traumatology and ask questions about our understanding of the pathophysiology of trauma and the biology of wound healing, which forms the basis for principles of treatment, and then ask the question...do our treatment recommendations make sense? We will look at the research that has been done: bench top, animals, and clinical reports. From the evaluations and discussions should come some consensus about the appropriateness of treatment as is currently practiced.

To prepare you for this innovative and unique conference format, you will receive, prior to the conference, several articles covering the topic areas to be discussed, so that everyone can develop questions and concerns for the conference sessions. And bring your laptop! Internet connections will be available to aid in the search for most relevant and up-to-date literature.

So join your colleagues in the College of Diplomates for this unique learning experience in this very unique and beautiful setting.

OF THE
COLLEGE OF DIPLOMATES
2004 SUMMER CONFERENCE

Jens Ove Andreasen, DDS, Odont. Dr. h.c.
Birkeroed, Denmark

Dr. Andreasen is recognized as the most prolific contributor to the knowledge of dental trauma spanning more than four decades in which he has authored over 200 publications: textbooks, manuals and journal articles. He is an honorary member of the AAE and a recipient of its Sommer Award. He has lectured worldwide and has been a frequent presenter at the AAE's Annual Sessions. His publications and research have helped establish guidelines for treatment of dental injuries resulting in many thousands of patients receiving proper treatment for their injuries. While he is very interested in sharing advice about treatment of injuries, Dr. Andreasen has a keen interest in investigating the biologic principles involved in dental trauma and wound healing and discussing how these principles affect treatment.

Leif K. Bakland, DDS
Loma Linda, California

A long time active member of the AAE, Dr. Bakland has had an interest in dental trauma since meeting Dr. Andreasen 25 years ago. He has authored many journal articles and several chapters on trauma in a number of endodontic textbooks both here and abroad. He is a frequent lecturer on this topic and has been involved in several AAE projects dealing with dental trauma, such as guidelines for avulsed teeth and articles in Colleagues for Excellence. His work as a spokesperson to news media about dental trauma has resulted in sharing information about the use of milk in storing avulsed teeth to the readers of numerous newspapers and news journals. Dr. Bakland has worked with Dr. Andreasen on many projects, including spending a WHO Fellowship at Dr. Andreasen's clinic in Copenhagen.
