Description/Overview: As dental health specialists, we are continually confronted with one of the greatest challenges in clinical practice: managing patients who experience fear and anxiety toward dental procedures. Recognizing and appropriately addressing these emotions is essential to providing effective and patient- centered care. To achieve this, a variety of clinical and behavioral strategies can be implemented, along with improvements in the clinical environment, in order to foster greater trust, comfort, and overall well-being for our patients.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify patients who may be experiencing fear and anxiety as early as possible, and to prepare to provide them with the best possible care and support.
  2. To create a clinic environment where patients feel safe, comfortable, and confident, enabling them to receive treatment in the most calm and stress-free way possible.
  3. To clearly distinguish between fear and anxiety, and to determine when treatment should be carried out with pharmacological support versus behavioral management techniques.
